Apple has the latest generation of its
set-top box donated new features. The published yesterday in beta TVOS 9.2
introduces support for Bluetooth keyboards for text entry. Thus, the fourth
generation Apple TV closes on to previous models that support wireless
keyboards already since 2013.
Another new feature of the TVOS 9.2 are
folders to group apps. The Podcasts app is now available on the set-top box,
while the App Switcher received a new design. Developers can now integrate maps
into their TVOS Apps. In addition, the TVOS 9.2 comes up with performance
enhancements and bug fixes.
The download of the preliminary version
requires a membership in the Apple Developer Program. Whether it will give the TVOS
9.2 as public beta, is questionable, since the installation of TVOS-preliminary
versions requires more effort (USB connection to Mac, download and install via
iTunes).
In the first half 2016 Apple wants an update
published for the remote app that introduces support for the language assistant
Siri. This will make it possible to control the new Apple TV model with iPhone,
iPad or iPod touch also via voice commands.
