With Apple OS X Leopard has known the backup software Time
Machine built into the Mac operating system. It ensures all contents of the
startup disk to an external drive and should be enabled for most users. By
default, Time Machine performs hourly backups. But not always this is useful or
even desirable.
With the free tool TimeMachineEditor the backup interval can
be adjusted as desired.
"TimeMachineEditor is a software for OS X that lets you change
the default one-hour backup interval of Time Machine. You can change the
interval or create a more sophisticated.
This is useful if you don’t need to backup every hour and
don’t want the performance penalty. This is also especially useful if you
manipulate lots of data within one hour as you would spend the whole day
backing up."
For example, can thus be Time Machine configured so that only
every twelve hours or every two days is performed a backup. Alternatively, the
control over calendar events is possible. This backup can be applied
exclusively to predefined schedules. Another mode of TimeMachineEditor ensures
that Time Machine only runs when the Mac is not in use.
