Microsoft has updated its page on the Windows lifecycle and confirmed that sales of PCs with Windows 7 Professional will be
closed on 31 October 2016. Sales of models with Windows 7 Home Basic, Home
Premium and Ultimate were closed on October 31, 2014.
After this date, manufacturers may only sell
PCs with Windows 7 Professional who are in their stocks. They can no longer
obtain new licenses from the operating system.
This news is also important for companies who
want to retire PCs with Windows XP but do not think about switching to Windows
8.1 or Windows 10.
End Of Support for Windows 7 SP1
The mainstream support phase for Windows 7
SP1 was closed on January 13, 2015, which means that the operating system will
not receive new features and functionality, such as DirectX 12.
After day 13, Windows 7 with SP1 entered the
extended support phase. At this stage, Microsoft will release only security
updates and fixes for bugs deemed critical. The Extended Support phase will
close on January 14, 2020.
